Happy Father's Day!

Today is Father's Day and when I woke up this morning I praised GOD for being such an AWESOME father to me! I am truly thankful for HIS unconditional LOVE. I then thanked GOD for the Fathers that HE put in my life. As some of you may know I have two AWESOME Dads that are just the best and they continue to show me what right looks like (I blogged about them here). Both of my Fathers know that I love them to pieces because I tell them all the time how dope they are but I don't always tell my brother. So today I want to tell my brother how DOPE he is!

I am the oldest out of Antonius and I (by 47minutes...lol) but he has always acted as the oldest. He has always had such an old soul and it was defiantly the balance between the two of us. Growing up Antonius took on the role of being my protector and even as I am about to turn 36 he still looks out for me (he secretly ask my sister-n-law if I am ok). I am thankful that he allowed me to be a tomboy and climb mountains with his friends (even though I know he wanted to send me home), I am thankful for him rubbing my stomach when I was sick, I am thankful that he worked hard and sent me on our Senior trip instead of himself, I am thankful that he paid for me to go to college, I am thankful that when I was going through a divorce he came home and moved me to Atlanta and got me an apartment, I am thankful that when I came oversees he encouraged me and told me I would be okay.  Whew....I have tears in my eyes just thinking about all the things he has done for me.

When I was younger I wondered what it would be like to have a twin sister instead of a brother but GOD knew I would need my brother. Praise GOD!

Now that Antonius is a father everything that he has done for me  he is now doing those things for his kids. I love to see him interacting with him and I love that he is leading his kids to CHRIST!

Antonius I am sending you a big cyber hug and kiss today (I know you say you hate the mushy stuff but I think you are getting soft in your old age...lol). Have an AWESOME Father's and continue to be our protector. Oh and thank you for rocking with HISBlessedOne!

Love you so much

Happy Father's Day to all the Dads out there and to all the Single Moms!

Gifts from GOD

Last week I had a conversation with one of my girlfriends about being baptized and receiving the gift of the Holy Spirit and speaking in tongue and as I was talking to her it reminded me of a Saturday morning in my 20s when I received the gift of tongue.

My mother had encouraged me to attend a Woman Conference with her at my God Mother's church and shortly after I had walked in I heard a noise that sounded like a woman in labor. I turned around to see what was going on and in walked my God Mother dressed in scrubs. She said that she had come to birth to our spiritual gifts that GOD had put in us. I don't remember very much about that day but what I do remember will forever be with me.

After being there for a while my God Mother asked if anyone wanted to receive the gift of speaking in tongue. My mother turned to me and asked if I wanted to receive the gift and made sure that I fully understood what the gift entailed.

I had been baptized and filled with the Holy Spirit but had not received the gift of tongue. My relationship with CHRIST was getting stronger and I knew that I was called to do more with my life. As I walked to the front of the church a few women came to pray with me. Now this is where my memory escapes me a bit because I know I walked to the front of the church but all I can remember is laying on the floor on the right side of the pews with about 3 to 4 women praying in tongue over me. I remember opening my eyes looking for my mother and wondering why she was not there with me. I was nervous and even though I tried to speak nothing would come out of my mouth. It seemed like I was on that floor forever but the women of GOD did not give up. Ha but my flesh did...I finally succumbed to the spirit and when I opened my mouth I uttered a word. The women began to praise GOD and I began speaking in tongue as if it was my second language. A sense of peace came over me and I was no longer nervous.

I received my gift over 10yrs ago and during that time my relationship with CHRIST has gotten stronger and my tongue as changed since that first day at the Woman's Conference. I now mostly pray in the spirit and sometimes it is peaceful and some time I am loud and crying and exhausted but I never complain or get tired of it because I know that either I am being healed or delivered or someone else is.  In some instances after I come out of prayer the Holy Spirit will give me a word for the person I was praying for and I have learned to embrace that gift because it is not about me but about the Holy Spirit having its way.

Of course this was my experience and I am sure that everyone that has the gift of tongue has a different story.  What I LOVE about GOD is everyone's experience with HIM is different and personable (that makes me smile).

For those that does not have the gift and would like to receive it I would encourage you to study the word, have faith and pray for it.

Acts 2:4, 10:45-46, 19:6
Mark 16:17
1 Corinthians 12:7-11, 14:1-2

Please share your story of how you received your gift of tongue. I would love to hear it.

What Kind Of Seed Are You Sowing?

A few years ago I had the brilliant idea that I would go to Istanbul, Turkey. I am not sure what lead me to want to go to Turkey other than overhearing someone say they had a good time there. I had talked to my brother and discussed my plans of traveling alone but he then reminded me that one of his friends lived and worked in Turkey. I was a little apprehensive because I knew his friend....as a matter of fact she was my friend at one point in my 20s but life and years separated us. He ensured me that it would be okay and that I would have a good time and I am sure he did the same thing for her.

So the planning began for us to meet up and spend a few days in Istanbul (she lived a few hours away from there) it would be a mini vacation for both of us. We talked a few times over the phone and through emails and everything seemed to be okay between us despite the lack of communication through the years.

Finally it was vacation time! When I pulled up at the hotel there was my some what "friend" there to greet me. I wouldn't be honest if I said that it was a little awkward for like 2 seconds. The moment we opened our mouths to say hello I don't think we stopped talking until we said good bye to each as I headed to the airport a few days later.

I often refer to Turkey as my Eat Pray Love moment!  The first meal we had was lunch and it lasted well into the evening. We couldn't walk by a pastry window without going in to try something and have a cup of tea which most times turned into an hour long conversation. If you had looked at us through the window you would have thought we were sisters or life long friends. Our conversations covered relationships, love, religion, books, our future and we even talked about the past and why we stopped talking. By the end of the trip we were sad to see each other go. In just a few days we had allowed healing to happen and a life long friendship to grow.

I am thankful for Istanbul because I know it was all in GOD's plan. Last night as I was studying the word of GOD I read Matthew 13:1-23 over and over again. I asked myself what type of seed am I sowing daily. As I was reading the word I was reminded of a picture that I took while I was in Turkey (checkout the picture above) which in return reminded me of the awesome seed that was sown between myself and my friend and how I want to sow a deep planted seed with everyone I meet.

Just earlier this week GOD convicted me by asking me who I was passing judgement on (I blog about here) so I know that HE is working somethings out in me which means HE LOVES ME!

I  no longer want  to sow seeds that die......

To my friend Alicia thank you for such an AWESOME trip and I love you like crazy!

Matthew 13:23 The seed that fell on good soil represents those who truly hear and understand God’s word and produce a harvest of thirty, sixty, or even a hundred times as much as had been planted!

Who do you LOVE?

For the last couple of days I have been in prayer for one of my friends. This morning as I was in prayer she dropped in my spirit again and as I began to pray for her I prayed that she would seek CHRIST and cry out to HIM for healing and deliverance. As I said that I remembered that she is not a Christian but of another faith. GOD immediately reminded me that just because she does not believe in HIM does not mean HE doesn’t love her.  HE loves everyone even those that sin, the back sliders, and again those of different religious backgrounds. GOD then asked me who have I turned away or passed judgment on because they were different than me or not in my circle?

Of course my eyes got big as I thought about the people that I have judged and why I have judged them. I was at a loss for words even as I am writing this I am convicted.   Matthew 22:37-40 clearly says JESUS replied: “‘Love the LORD your GoOD with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments."

GOD loves me (US) with Agape love and I know in order for me to love my neighbors like I love myself I will need to  stay in prayer and in the word of GOD.
1 John 5:14-15 This is the confidence we have in approaching GOD: that if we ask anything according to HIS will, HE hears us. And if we know that HE hears us—whatever we ask—we know that we have what we asked of HIM.

I have faith that I can love with the LOVE of GOD!

SPEAK OUT!

Last month I took a course to be a Sexual Assault Response Coordinator for the military and next month I will be recognized as a SARC nationally. This cause is something near and dear to me because I was sexually harassed by a family friend as a teenager and some of my family members were sexually assaulted growing up.

In the United States, 1 in 5 women and 1 in 71 men have been raped in their lifetime and nearly 1 in 2 women and 1 in 5 men have experienced other forms of sexual violence at some point in their lives. Of course the statistics are not 100% accurate because many victims do not tell the police, family, or friends about the violence. Sexual violence is any sexual activity where consent is not freely given. This includes completed or attempted sex acts that are against the victim's will or involve a victim who is unable to consent. Sexual Violence can consist of physical, verbal, and/or nonverbal abuse.

After living with being sexually assaulted for more than 30yrs my Aunt Cathy finally decide to SPEAK UP about her abuse. This is her story.....

When my niece contacted me about her plans to write about sexual abuse on her blog I thought it was a great idea. I told her to make sure she mentions how important it is to tell when you are abused. She then asked me if  I would tell my story. Three years ago I would have denied ever being sexual abused.

Thank God that today I am able to tell my story and not feel shamed or as if it was my fault. I lived with being sexual abused for over 30 years before I ever mentioned it to anyone. I actually had plans to take it to my grave.

When I was 12 years old I was molested and raped by my mother’s boyfriend. Yea that’s right! Someone I trusted. At first it started out with him coming into my room and stand over me while I was asleep. He would open the bathroom door when I was using the bathroom or taking a bath. He would walk up behind me and stand very close to me to the point where I could smell alcohol on his breath.

He would do these things when my mother wasn’t at home. My mom worked 2nd shift, so he would use the excuse of checking on us. His attacks began to progress even more. One night as I was lying on the chair asleep, I woke up to find him touching my vagina with one of his hand while touching himself with the other hand.

I jumped up, cursed him out and told him I was going to tell my mom. Of course, he told me the usual spill that she was not going to believe me.  She would blame me, and it was entirely my fault.

I was 12 years old.   I believed him and besides my mother was very strict and MEAN…. After that I would stay my distant. When he came to the house I would leave. If I could not leave I would make sure I was never in the house alone with him. For a while I was safe. A few months later I was in the house watching TV and he came over. When he came in I got up to leave. He blocked the door and would not let me out.  I tried to push pass him. To make a long story short he over powered me and raped me.

That destroyed me.  Not only did he take my virginity, he changed my life forever. My attitude changed. I became angry.  I was mean.  I began to smoke marijuana and drink to ease the pain. I felt like it was my entire fault. I couldn’t tell anyone.

The relationship with my mother took a 360-degree turn. I felt like she didn’t protect me.  I blamed her because she brought him into my life. Being sexual abuse affects you in many ways. I started using guys for my pleasure. I didn’t trust anyone and I didn’t care what anyone had to say. I did exactly what I wanted to do.

For over 30 years I was on a road of self-destruction and the sad thing about it I didn’t even know it. But thank God for healing. I have forgiven my mother and I know that she did not know anything about it. I love my mother. I have even forgiven the man that raped me.

Over the years I’ve had real trust issues in every relationship I was ever in.  They always ended the same way. I can honestly say that because I did not deal with the abuse in my first marriage it ended in divorce. I still have a long way to go.  I know that God is going to see me through.

I do not want anyone to feel sorry for me. I walk with my head held high and I encourage everyone to tell someone if it has happened to you.  I don’t care when it happened, it is never too late to tell.

Women with children…. Watch your child, if their attitude changes, if they go from sweet to a hell raiser PLEASE! PLEASE! Talk to them. Let your child know that no matter what; they can come to you about anything.

I am telling my story in hope that it helps someone and it also helps me to tell it.

A’keta I love you… Keep letting GOD use you.

As we promote awareness of Sexual Assault through this month I ask everyone to please STAND UP and TAKE ACTION! If you have been assaulted please SPEAK UP and contact someone for help by dialing 1.800.656.HOPE!

Psalm 30:2 O Lord my GOD, I cried unto thee, and thou hast healed me.
